• He voted to expand free school lunch to students in North Dakota schools. NDU supported this position. 

• Sponsored parental rights bill, HB 1526, that would have also curbed social emotional learning. NDU opposed this bill.

• Sponsored private school voucher tax credit bill, SB 2369. NDU opposed this bill.

• Made a joke on the House floor during the debate about the foreign language stipend bill, SB 2354, saying we shouldn’t teach kids another language because they might leave North Dakota.

• He voted in support of book bans and penalties for librarians. NDU opposed this position. 

• He voted to end the NDPERS pension for public workers. NDU opposed this position. 

• He voted to defund public schools by siphoning tax payer money to private schools at the expense of rural and public schools. NDU opposed this position. 

• He voted against tenure and due process rights at Bismarck State College and Dickinson State University. NDU opposed this position.

• He voted in support of harmful parent rights legislation. NDU opposed this position.

• Representative Nico Rios was arrested for driving while intoxicated on December 15th, following a traffic stop in Williston. During the stop, Rios made vulgar, homophobic, and anti-migrant remarks. He has since been removed from his interim committee assignment and Republican House Majority Leader, Mike Lefor, has called on him to resign. Learn more here.
